I Convinced Wizkid to Do Afrobeats – Eldee
Veteran Nigerian artist Eldee The Don has opened up about his pivotal influence in shaping Wizkid’s career, particularly his transition into the Afrobeats genre.
In a recent appearance on the Adesope Live show, Eldee shared that he was the one who convinced the Grammy-winning artist to embrace Afrobeats, a decision that played a crucial role in Wizkid’s rise to stardom.
Eldee recalled that when Wizkid was first signed to Banky W’s EME record label, he was inclined towards reggae and dancehall music. However, Eldee advised him to create music with distinct Nigerian influences to stand out in the industry.
“Wizkid was leaning towards Reggae and Dancehall when Banky W signed him before he dropped his first single, but I told him he has to find a middle ground and do something Nigerian with a lot of flavours in it,” Eldee explained.
Following Eldee’s advice, Wizkid began producing Afropop hits like ‘Don’t Dull,’ which significantly contributed to his breakthrough in the music industry.
