Simi Regrets Comment on Not Listening to Other Artistes’ Music
Nigerian singer Simi has retracted her statement about not listening to other musicians’ work, acknowledging that her comment was “weird” and misunderstood.
In a recent interview, Simi mentioned that she only listens to the music of her husband, Adekunle Gold, sparking accusations of pride from netizens. Facing backlash, Simi took to her official X account to clarify her remarks.
“In hindsight, I should have had this conversation more carefully,” she admitted. “I didn’t because I honestly didn’t consider that it could be seen as cocky. I have never been proud of it. I don’t even see how it is something to be proud about.”
She explained that the comment was made in a light-hearted context during a casual, two-hour interview filled with drinking and cussing. “It was banter. In the wrong place. This is why I know I should have been more careful,” she added.
Simi expressed frustration at how the clip was edited and shared, suggesting it was done with the intention to mislead. “It is impossible to watch the entire interview and come away with the feeling that you would have watched the clip that everyone was sharing,” she said.
The singer’s reflection and apology aim to address the misunderstanding and clarify her original intent.
