‘I’m a Feminist but I Don’t Support Disrespectful Wives’ – Funke Akindele
Renowned Nigerian actress and filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has openly identified as a feminist while emphasizing the importance of respect in marriage.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Akindele shared her views while advising the wife of popular skit maker, Kamo State. She clarified that although she strongly supports women’s empowerment, she does not condone wives being disrespectful to their husbands.
“I’m a feminist, but I don’t support a woman disrespecting her husband. Make sure you do what is right,” she stated.
The actress also stressed the need for men to treat women with dignity and not relegate them to traditional domestic roles. She highlighted the strength of women and the importance of financial independence, urging women to secure economic power to contribute meaningfully to their households.
Her statement has since sparked conversations on gender roles, marriage, and feminism in Nigerian society.
