It’s Not Safe For My Mental Space – Odumodublvck on Why He Can’t Live in Lagos

Abuja-based hip-hop artiste Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has expressed his reservations about relocating to Nigeria’s entertainment hub, Lagos, citing concerns about the city’s impact on his mental health.

During an appearance on the Echoo Room podcast hosted by Quincy Jonze, the singer reiterated his preference for the calm and laid-back atmosphere of Abuja, where he enjoys recognition and a comfortable environment.

Using a metaphorical analogy, Odumodublvck explained, “Let’s say a fish pond has 10 fishes in Lagos and there are a hundred fishermen; in Abuja, there are 10 fishes and there are five fishermen, if you are a fisherman, where would you go and cast your nets?”

He emphasized the power of the internet, which allows him to connect with anyone despite his physical location. While he visits Lagos for specific purposes, he expressed concerns about fully immersing himself in the city’s entertainment industry. He believes it may not be conducive to his brand, mental well-being, and financial stability. Odumodublvck mentioned the hierarchy and competition among artists, highlighting that prominent artists like Wizkid would typically prioritize contacting other artists before reaching out to him.

However, he emphasized the advantages of staying in Abuja, where he believes opportunities are more accessible. Using an example, he stated, “But where we are in Abuja, if Skepta should come, if they call three artists, and they haven’t called me, then they haven’t called any artist.”
Odumodublvck’s comments reflect his personal perspective on the music industry and his belief that remaining in Abuja better serves his career and overall well-being.
