J. Cole Compares Himself and Burna Boy to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal

In a new collaboration that has sparked excitement among fans, J. Cole and Burna Boy have compared themselves to one of the greatest NBA duos of all time. Burna Boy, who recently dropped his album “I Told Them…” on August 25, joined forces with the Dreamville rapper for a track called “Thanks.”

While this collaboration marks their first musical venture together, J. Cole didn’t hold back from likening their partnership to the iconic basketball duo of Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. In his verse, J. Cole rapped, “Cole and Burna, Shaq and Kobe/ Winnin’ a ring, then we gon’ repeat and three-peat/ Them nerds hate, they seat geeks/ They peepin’ us on the low, we like the cheat sheet.”

Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal famously led the Los Angeles Lakers to three consecutive NBA championships in 2000, 2001, and 2002.

During a recent appearance on Complex’s 360 with Speedy, Burna Boy shed light on the genesis of “Thanks” and hinted at another collaborative effort with J. Cole. He shared, “We did get in the studio but we didn’t make ‘Thanks’ that day. We made something else. And yeah, he sent the verse for ‘Thanks’ a few weeks later.”

Pressed about the specifics of their studio session, Burna Boy humorously deflected by suggesting, “Ask [J. Cole].” The Nigerian superstar went on to describe the vibrant atmosphere during their collaboration and revealed that several basketball players were present in the studio on that memorable day.

Although the exact details of the studio session remain hazy due to its exhilarating nature, Burna Boy expressed his deep respect for J. Cole in a recent interview with Apple Music. He referred to J. Cole as a “legend” and praised his authenticity and demeanour, sharing his aspiration to achieve a similar level of success.

Burna Boy’s seventh studio album “I Told Them…” not only showcases his artistry but also features collaborations with renowned artists including 21 Savage, RZA, GZA, Dave, Seyi Vibez, and Byron Messia. The joint effort with J. Cole has undoubtedly added to the anticipation surrounding Burna Boy’s latest musical offering.
