Jay-Z’s Lawyer Denies Claims of Settlement with Tony Buzbee Amid Legal Battle

Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, has denied claims that the rapper reached a settlement with Texas-based lawyer Tony Buzbee over a recently withdrawn rape allegation and the subsequent defamation lawsuit filed by the music mogul.

The back-and-forth stems from a lawsuit filed by an anonymous woman – represented by Buzbee – accusing JAY-Z of sexual assault. The case was later dropped, prompting JAY-Z and his legal team to sue both the woman and Buzbee for defamation. Now, Buzbee is attempting to dismiss the defamation suit, claiming the matter had already been resolved.

In a court filing, Buzbee alleged that both parties came to an agreement on February 4, 2025, with terms that included voluntarily dropping the sexual assault lawsuit and a promise that JAY-Z and his associates would stop any form of intimidation against the plaintiff. Buzbee also asserted that JAY-Z’s legal team agreed to withdraw prior motions for sanctions filed against his firm.

But Spiro has firmly denied the existence of any such deal. “Total lie,” he said in a statement. “He brought a false case, lost badly and was forced to dismiss quickly. End of story.”

In response, Buzbee’s attorney countered Spiro’s statement, claiming there was a documented email exchange confirming an agreement. He also alleged that JAY-Z and his legal team later violated that agreement by sending individuals to “harass and intimidate” the anonymous plaintiff and her family – a claim Spiro flatly rejected.

Spiro emphasized that JAY-Z “would never settle the lawsuit or pay any money to resolve it, given it was a heinous false accusation.”

The defamation case remains ongoing. The original sexual assault suit was dismissed with prejudice, preventing the plaintiff from re-filing the case – and court records make no mention of any settlement or mutual agreement between the parties.
