Jennifer Lopez’s Vegas Residency in Jeopardy Due to Sluggish Ticket and Album Sales
Jennifer Lopez’s highly anticipated Las Vegas residency may be in trouble following reports of underwhelming ticket and album sales. According to Page Six, Lopez, who was set to perform at the MGM Grand for a 90-show residency next year, might see her $90 million deal rescinded.
“MGM is watching her not doing well on the road. They are very nervous,” an insider revealed to the outlet. “It’s pretty rare you have a poor tour and then go to Vegas.”
Insiders also mentioned that Lopez is now being offered a reduced fee for fewer performances. Representatives for both the MGM Grand and Lopez have not responded to requests for comment.
In response to the low ticket sales, Lopez recently rebranded her This Is Me…Now Tour as a “Greatest Hits” concert series. NME reported on April 3 that the tour’s official title has been changed to This Is Me… Live | The Greatest Hits.
Lopez’s team has not issued a statement regarding the rebranding or whether the singer plans to reschedule the recently canceled shows. Variety reported that Lopez canceled seven tour dates, affecting fans in Cleveland, Nashville, Raleigh, Atlanta, Tampa, New Orleans, and Houston. The cancellation notices stated: “Unfortunately, the Event Organizer has had to cancel your event. No action is required to obtain a refund.”
Despite 30 remaining tour dates, many tickets remain unsold.
Lopez released her ninth studio album, This Is Me…Now, under a new deal with BMG last year. The album, a follow-up to her 2002 release This Is Me…Then, which featured hits like “Jenny From the Block” and “All I Have,” has not met commercial expectations.
HipHopDX gave the album a lukewarm review, rating it 2.3 out of 5 and commenting: “For all of the time, money, and energy J.Lo and her team put into the theatrical accompaniment to This Is Me… Now, it would have behooved all involved to spend a little more time on the music that the film was meant to accompany. This is Me… Now hears Jennifer Lopez constantly tell fans how great her love life is. She rarely bothers to explain why.”
