Joe Budden and Fat Joe

Joe Budden Calls Out Fat Joe Over Clean Image Claims: “He’s Lying!”

In the latest episode of his podcast released on Wednesday (December 6), Joe Budden didn’t hold back in questioning Fat Joe’s recent assertions that he has been portraying a clean image while playing a “gangster” in the studio.

Budden asserted, “First of all, Fat Joe is lying. That’s number one. Fat Joe is lying. That is a lie!” Budden’s co-host chimed in, suggesting that Fat Joe might be at a point in his life where he doesn’t want to glorify certain aspects, but Budden remained sceptical, saying, “So he’s making up a lie to clean it? Don’t do that! Cuz nobody even said nothing!”

The controversy began when Fat Joe defended Young Thug last month, revealing that he had lied in most of his songs throughout his career. In a CNN interview with Gayle King, Fat Joe expressed concern about lyrics being used against artists in legal cases. He stated, “I’ve been rapping professionally for 30 years — I’ve lied in almost 95 per cent of my songs… I write like I feel that day. I’m just being creative.”

Fat Joe emphasized that his persona in music doesn’t reflect his real-life self, Joseph Cartagena, who is a family man involved in community service. Despite the clarification, Joe Budden questioned the sincerity of Fat Joe’s claims, especially regarding the origin of his nickname “Joey Crack.”

The podcast discussion shed light on the seriousness of lyrics being used against artists in legal cases, with Fat Joe arguing that the system exploits creative expression. Despite Fat Joe’s clarification later on Instagram, Joe Budden remains unconvinced about the authenticity of Fat Joe’s recent statements.
