Kevin Durant & Nike Agree to Lifetime Contract
The NBA Playoffs are in full swing, but that doesn’t mean business comes to a stop. On Friday afternoon, Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant announced on social media that he had signed a lifetime contract with Nike.
Nike has sponsored Durant since he entered the league in 2007. Since then, the two parties have created one of the strongest signature sneaker lines in footwear history. Durant primarily wore his 15th signature mode this season but recently debuted the Nike KD 16.
According to Boardroom, the new deal includes footwear, apparel, and a community and philanthropic collaboration focused on grassroots basketball. The only other Nike athletes to earn a lifetime deal are Michael Jordan and LeBron James.
“When I first signed with Nike, I couldn’t have dreamed of how far we’d go in this partnership. We’ve done amazing work creatively and philanthropically. We’ve traveled the world together and built a business that will now last forever. I’m excited for the future and honored to be in rare company with this deal,” said Durant.
Nike EVP of Global Sports Marketing John Slusher said, “As one of best basketball players in the world, Kevin Durant has been an important part of the Nike family for the past 16 years. We look forward to continuing to serve the next generation of athletes together.”
