Lauryn Hill Surprises Coachella, Joins Son YG Marley for Mini Fugees Reunion

In an unexpected turn of events at the first weekend of Coachella, Ms. Lauryn Hill made a dazzling appearance during her son YG Marley’s set, accompanied by none other than Wyclef Jean.

Taking the stage on Sunday afternoon (April 14), the Marley scion commenced his performance, only to be joined by his illustrious mother roughly 15 minutes into the set. Together, they delivered a string of Lauryn’s solo hits before delving into some beloved Fugees classics with the added flair of Wyclef Jean.

Hits like “Ex-Factor,” “Lost Ones,” “Killing Me Softly,” “Ready or Not,” and “Fu-Gee-La” electrified the audience, with YG seamlessly stepping in for Pras’ parts on “Ready or Not.” As if that wasn’t enough, the stage saw a further infusion of talent with the appearance of Busta Rhymes and Spliff Star.

In another notable nod to musical excellence, next month will see The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill enter the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2024, alongside De La Soul‘s 3 Feet High and Rising, among others. The induction ceremony is slated for May 21 at the Novo Theater in Los Angeles, CA.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. expressed pride in the diverse array of recordings joining the Grammy Hall of Fame in its milestone 50th year, recognizing their profound influence on music and culture.

The impact of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill was immediate, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and securing five Grammy Awards. Meanwhile, despite its initially modest commercial reception, 3 Feet High and Rising has garnered acclaim for its pivotal role in elevating art rap and progressive Hip Hop, earning a spot in the National Recording Registry in 2010 for its cultural and historical significance.
