Lupe Fiasco, Drake and Kendrick Lamar

Lupe Fiasco Sparks Debate: Claims Drake Outshines Kendrick Lamar in Rap Skills

In the midst of ongoing rap discussions, Lupe Fiasco has ignited controversy by declaring Drake as a superior rapper to Kendrick Lamar.

During an episode of X Spaces with Aye Verb on Monday (April 15), the Chicago rapper made the bold assertion, citing his appreciation for Drake’s response track “Push Ups (Drop & Give Me 50)” while admitting he hadn’t heard Kendrick’s diss verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That.”

When asked to choose between the two, Lupe unhesitatingly favoured Drake, emphasizing his lyrical prowess. While acknowledging Kendrick’s technical skill as a performer, he asserted his belief that Drake possesses superior rap abilities.

Lupe went further to express his perspective on Kendrick’s impact on the culture, praising his contributions but questioning his status as an elite lyricist. He emphasized his preference for underground lyricists over mainstream artists in terms of lyrical prowess.

Addressing J. Cole’s critique of Kendrick’s albums in the “7 Minute Drill” diss song, Lupe criticized Cole’s approach, suggesting it undermined Kendrick’s influence on black culture.

This isn’t the first time Lupe Fiasco has stirred debate over Kendrick’s rap skills. In 2018, he sparked controversy with similar remarks, later retracting his statements but clarifying that his apology wasn’t directed at Kendrick.

As discussions continue to unfold in the rap community, Lupe Fiasco’s recent remarks have reignited conversations about the intricacies of rap skill and influence, prompting varied reactions from fans and fellow artists alike.
