Lily Allen Reveals She Returned Adopted Puppy After It Chewed Up Family Passports

British singer Lily Allen has confessed that she returned an adopted puppy after it destroyed her family’s passports, causing significant disruption to their lives.

In a recent episode of her podcast “Miss Her?”, Allen shared that she adopted a puppy named Mary during the coronavirus pandemic in 2020. However, the singer made the difficult decision to return the dog after it chewed up her passport and those of her two daughters, Ethel (12) and Marnie (11).

Allen, who lives in New York with her husband, actor David Harbour, explained the chaos that ensued after the incident. “She ate all three of our passports, and they had our visas in them. I cannot tell you how much money it cost to get everything replaced because it was during COVID,” she said. The situation was so severe that it prevented her children from visiting their father, Sam Cooper, who lives in the UK, for several months. “I just couldn’t look at her—I was like, ‘You’ve ruined my life,’” Allen added.

The singer also mentioned that the passports were not the only things the puppy damaged, describing the dog as “badly behaved” despite her efforts to train it. The passport incident was the final straw that led to her decision to return the dog to the adoption center.

While Allen and Harbour are considering adopting another puppy, the story has caught the attention of animal rights organization PETA. The group penned an open letter urging Allen not to get another dog, stressing that pets “should never be treated as accessories to be discarded when they become inconvenient.”

Allen’s candid revelation has sparked discussions about the responsibilities of pet ownership, especially during challenging times like the pandemic.
