Liverpool vs Manchester City: Predictions, Tips & How to Watch Community Shield 2022

Fixture between Liverpool and Manchester City has produced plenty of goals and excitement in recent years and a repeat looks likely this weekend at Wembley.

The two favourites to be crowned Premier League champions meet at Wembley on Saturday afternoon in the Community Shield as defending English champions Manchester City face FA Cup winners Liverpool.

There seems little doubt that these two sides will once again be battling it out for the title come May, yet both will be keen to strike an early blow with a victory in the capital.

Liverpool vs Manchester City preview

It may not quite have the historic grandeur of El Clasico meetings between Real Madrid and Barcelona, but fixtures between Liverpool and Manchester City are fast becoming some of the most entertaining matches in European football.

The last seven meetings have brought 28 goals and given the vast array of attacking talent on display at Wembley this weekend there should be plenty of interest in backing a high scoring game.

Indeed, there has been only one clean by either team in the last nine matches and this fixture all but guarantees goals at both ends.

When and where is Liverpool vs. Man City taking place?

The Community Shield 2022 is being held at the King Power Stadium, with Wembley Stadium hosting the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 final this weekend. Kick-off between Liverpool and Man City is at 5 p.m. BST on Saturday, July 30.

Liverpool vs. Manchester City predicted lineups

An abdominal injury has sidelined first-choice goalkeeper Alisson Becker since Liverpool’s preseason friendly against Manchester United in Bangkok earlier in July.

Klopp says the Brazil international and forward Diogo Jota — the victim of a muscle injury — have “no chance” of playing against City, although he expects his No.1 to be ready to feature at Fulham.

Liverpool predicted lineup (4-3-3): Adrian (GK) — Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson — Keita, Fabinho, Thiago — Salah, Nunez, Diaz

After losing their first game of the 2021/22 season at Tottenham Hotspur, Guardiola will be wary of City’s tricky trip on Sunday to West Ham United, where they went 2-0 behind before rallying to earn a point in their final away game of the last campaign.

That could mean Guardiola will rest several of his key players for the Community Shield. Regulars John Stones, Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan could be involved after missing the club’s US tour.

Man. City predicted lineup (4-3-3): Ederson (GK) — Cancelo, Ake, Dias, Wilson-Esbrand — De Bruyne, Rodri, Silva — Mahrez, Haaland, Grealish
