Lizzo Sued by 3 Former Dancers Alleging Harassment and Hostile Work Environment
Grammy-winning artist Lizzo is facing legal trouble as she has been sued by three former dancers who have accused her and her production company, Big Grrrl Big Touring, Inc. (BGBT), of creating a hostile work environment and subjecting them to harassment during their time as members of her dance team.
The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, alleges several disturbing incidents. One of the plaintiffs claimed that while on tour in Amsterdam’s Red Light District in February, Lizzo encouraged her to “take turns touching the nude performers” at a club. Despite expressing her reluctance, the plaintiff eventually “acquiesced” due to fears of retaliation.
Another dancer stated that Lizzo raised concerns about her “weight gain” in a “thinly veiled” manner, pressuring her to disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job.
The complaint also alleges racial and religious discrimination experienced by the dancers. One incident involved an accountant from BGBT’s primarily White management team scolding the Black dancers for allegedly “unacceptable and disrespectful” behaviour while on tour. The lawsuit claims that this comment was “charged with racial and fat-phobic animus.”
These serious allegations have surfaced against Lizzo, whose work is known for promoting uplifting messages and body positivity. The plaintiffs seek justice and accountability for the alleged mistreatment they endured while being part of the Grammy-winner’s dance team. The lawsuit highlights the importance of maintaining a respectful and inclusive work environment within the entertainment industry.
