The worrying form of the European nations ahead of the World Cup continued last night. France, one of the favorites to win prestigious tournament, were defeated in alarming fashion by Denmark.
As reported by Marca, ‘Les Bleus’ were most disappointing in the final third, as the team struggled to generate any genuine chances. Even Mbappé, usually so outstanding in a French shirt, couldn’t help his team out.
In fact, it was one of his worst performances for the international team to date, which saw him produce two of the most uncharacteristically off-target shots of his career.
Social media was not short of sarcastic comments after Mbappé’s display, as fans ironically shared their thoughts on his two wild efforts on goal. Many were quick to bring up the Haaland vs Mbappé debate as well, and there was an overwhelming vote in favor in the Norwegian last night.
France coach Didier Deschamps spoke after the game on the topic and pleaded with the PSG coach to rest Mbappé’s ahead of the World Cup, which starts in November. “I know he [Galtier] still wants to play Kylian. But from time to time: to be able to breathe a little bit, to have a few good minutes less, it won’t fail him, quite the contrary”, he said. He seemed to suggest that Mbappé’s poor performance was caused by fatigue.
Mbappé is fundamental for PSG and scored 10 goals in nine games for the French side. It’s unlikely Galtier will pay much attention to Deschamp’s requests.
