McDonald’s to Launch Chicken Big Mac in the U.S. After Success in the UK
McDonald’s is set to introduce its Chicken Big Mac to U.S. customers, following its resounding success in the United Kingdom, where the sandwich sold out within 10 days. Starting October 10, the Chicken Big Mac will be available at McDonald’s locations across the U.S. for a limited time.
The Chicken Big Mac mirrors the classic Big Mac but swaps out the traditional beef patties for two tempura chicken patties. It retains other signature features like Big Mac sauce, pickles, shredded lettuce, and a slice of American cheese.
This move aligns with McDonald’s broader strategy of boosting chicken offerings on its menu, which are generally more affordable than beef. CEO Chris Kempczinski highlighted in the company’s latest earnings call that chicken sales are now on par with beef at McDonald’s, as the fast-food giant looks to reinvigorate sales.
McDonald’s first tested the Chicken Big Mac in some Miami locations in 2022 to gauge customer reactions. The sandwich has been highly requested by U.S. customers since it gained popularity in the UK and Ireland, where it became one of the chain’s most successful launches.
With fast-food chains facing slowing sales and reduced restaurant traffic, companies are looking to new items, value meals, and promotions to attract budget-conscious diners. McDonald’s, for instance, has extended its $5 meal deal through December in response to inflationary pressures.
The Chicken Big Mac’s arrival is part of McDonald’s efforts to meet consumer demand and maintain its competitive edge in a challenging economic climate.
