Miley Cyrus Had to Have Therapy to Deal With ‘Painful Memories’ of Hannah Montana

Popular singer Miley Cyrus has revealed that she underwent therapy to address the criticism she faced during her early years as a child star, highlighting the emotional toll that fame took on her mental health.

Cyrus, who gained worldwide recognition during her teenage years as the lead character in the Disney Channel sitcom ‘Hannah Montana,’ recently opened up about the lasting impact of early stardom on her life. In an interview with The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column, the 30-year-old singer discussed the challenges she encountered as a young artist in the entertainment industry.

Reflecting on the criticism she received during her formative years, Cyrus shared, “When I look back at the criticism I received as a child, it has only been these last few years that I have understood just how wrong that was. I am a great believer in therapy to help heal painful memories and I am in a good place – but the reality is, it should never have happened!”

While her role in ‘Hannah Montana’ propelled her to fame, Cyrus faced significant scrutiny and pressure as she navigated her transition from a child star to a mature artist. Her journey was marked by a notable departure from her earlier image, including a provocative performance of ‘Blurred Lines’ with Robin Thicke at the 2013 VMAs and the release of the controversial ‘Wrecking Ball’ music video.

Cyrus clarified that her evolution as an artist was driven by a desire to assert her individuality and separate herself from the character she portrayed onscreen. She emphasized, “I am not an attention-seeking person but I had a point to prove that I was my own person and not a character I had been playing.”

Additionally, the singer highlighted the importance of honesty and vulnerability in her journey, particularly in her struggles with depression. Cyrus revealed that her candid discussions about mental health resonated with fans and encouraged them to seek help for their own challenges. She noted, “When you are open and honest, that becomes a part of who you are – and organically that is going to be reflected in your songwriting.”

Addressing her fellow individuals in the entertainment industry, Cyrus issued a word of caution about the potential dangers of the internet. Drawing parallels between internet use and addictive substances, she urged individuals not to search for themselves online. “Don’t Google yourself – I am being totally serious, don’t Google yourself! People are so ready to talk about the dangers of drink and drugs for your people in the industry – but there isn’t enough warning about the internet. It can be a truly toxic place!”

Miley Cyrus’s candid revelations shed light on the challenges faced by young artists in the spotlight and the importance of mental health support in navigating the demands of fame and public scrutiny.
