Miley Cyrus Reveals She Nearly Quit Music After Rupturing Ovarian Cyst On Stage
American pop star Miley Cyrus has revealed that a painful on-stage health scare nearly led her to walk away from music entirely.
In a recent interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, the 32-year-old singer disclosed that she suffered a ruptured ovarian cyst while performing during her New Year’s Eve 2023 show – an experience so traumatic it made her consider quitting her career.
“I really thought I was done,” Cyrus admitted, recounting the physical toll of the incident and the emotional weight that followed. But encouragement from Lorne Michaels, the legendary Canadian film and TV producer best known for Saturday Night Live, helped change her perspective.
“He told me, ‘Six months. Everybody gets six months to feel sorry for themselves, and then we start to rebuild,’” she recalled. “He said, ‘You have no idea how many artists have sat in this chair and said they were quitting music. Everyone goes through something like this.’”
Cyrus, known for her hit songs like Angels Like You and Flowers, has continued to open up about her journey toward healing and the resilience required to stay in the spotlight. Her comments add to a growing conversation about the pressure performers face and the importance of support behind the scenes.
