Miss South Africa 2024, Mia le Roux, Withdraws from Miss Universe Over Health Concerns

Mia le Roux, the reigning Miss South Africa and the first deaf contestant to compete for the Miss Universe title, has withdrawn from the ongoing global competition citing health reasons.

The Miss South Africa organisation announced her decision in a statement released on Friday morning. The Miss Universe finale, which le Roux was set to attend, will take place on Saturday, 16 November, in Mexico.

Expressing her gratitude and regret, le Roux stated, “I am profoundly thankful for the unwavering support from South Africa during my time at Miss Universe. Making this decision has been incredibly challenging, knowing the dreams and hopes that have been placed on me. However, I’m deeply grateful to have the opportunity to focus on my health and recovery so I may continue to serve my country with full strength.”

Le Roux’s historic participation in the competition as the first deaf contestant was celebrated nationwide, and her withdrawal has sparked an outpouring of support from South Africans and fans globally. She was among 120 contestants vying for the prestigious Miss Universe crown.

The Miss South Africa organisation has affirmed its full support for le Roux, prioritising her well-being and recovery.
