Mixed Reactions as Davido Reunites with Daughter Imade After Custody Dispute
Nigerians on social media have shared a flurry of emotional reactions following Afrobeats star Davido’s reunion with his first daughter, Imade Adeleke, after months of a highly publicised custody battle with her mother, Sophia Momodu.
The singer took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday to post joyful photos and videos of himself and Imade, who appeared to be in high spirits. The content also made its way to X (formerly Twitter), where Davido described the moment as the “Best day of my life.”
In one of the clips, Davido flashed peace signs at the camera while Imade danced beside him, both clearly enjoying their time together.
The heartwarming reunion sparked a wave of reactions online, with fans praising both parents for taking steps toward reconciliation. Some applauded Sophia for allowing father and daughter to reconnect, while others celebrated Davido for remaining persistent in his efforts to be involved in Imade’s life.
“Every child needs their father, especially a girl child,” one user wrote. Another added, “You can always tell Davido’s happiness is different when he’s with Imade.”
However, the reunion also revived debates about the custody dispute that began in 2024. Davido had previously accused Sophia of blocking his access to their daughter despite his financial support. In contrast, Sophia raised concerns about his lifestyle and pointed to the tragic 2022 death of their son, Ifeanyi, as a reason for caution.
While many praised the development as a step toward healing, not all comments were favourable. Some users criticised Davido, accusing him of leveraging the moment for publicity. “After refusing to pay school fees for three years, now you want to use her for clout,” one user claimed, referencing details from the custody case.
Still, most responses were optimistic, with fans hopeful that the reunion marks a turning point in the co-parenting relationship between Davido and Sophia.
Neither parent has publicly commented on the future of their custody arrangements since the reunion.
