‘Mortal Kombat 1’ Reboots the Series on September 19th

NetherRealm and WB Games have unveiled Mortal Kombat 1, the next installment in the Mortal Kombat game series. This new game promises a “reborn” take on the series, introducing new fighting mechanics and game modes.

While specific details are currently scarce, players can expect to see a roster of familiar characters, as well as “Kameo Fighters” who will assist during battles.

The iconic gore and fatalities that Mortal Kombat is known for will also be present, as showcased in the teaser trailer.

Mortal Kombat 1 is set to release on September 19th for various platforms, including PC (via Epic and Steam), PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X/S. Customers who pre-order the game will gain access to a beta version in August.

Additionally, a digital Premium Edition priced at $110 will provide early access to the game on September 14th, a special Johnny Cage skin resembling Jean-Claude Van Damme, early access to playable characters and Kameo Fighters as they become available post-launch.

For dedicated fans, a physical Kollector’s Edition priced at $250 will include a 16.5-inch Liu Kang sculpture, a matching in-game skin, art prints, and a special case.

This reboot aligns with the events of Mortal Kombat 11 and its Aftermath add-on, but it also aims to reimagine the gameplay and story. The extent of these changes remains to be seen.

Nevertheless, it is not surprising that Mortal Kombat is undergoing this reinvention, as other game franchises, such as Capcom’s Street Fighter, are also introducing new elements to refresh their formula, such as the World Tour mode in Street Fighter 6.
