My Car Used to Embarrass My Wife – Timi Dakolo

Nigerian singer Timi Dakolo has opened up about his early struggles to win over his wife, Busola Dakolo, and the challenges they faced during their budding relationship.

In a recent interview with Pulse, the ‘Iyawo Mi’ hitmaker revealed that he met his wife in church but had to persist to get her attention. According to Dakolo, Busola wasn’t initially interested in pursuing a romantic relationship with him.

Recalling the story, Dakolo shared how a branded Picanto car, which he won after emerging victorious in the inaugural season of Idols West Africa in 2007, became a source of embarrassment for Busola.

He said, “I met my wife in the church. I asked her to be my date for a ball, and she gave me her number, but she wasn’t answering my calls. I kept visiting her area, hoping to see her again. Eventually, I found her, and she explained her phone had been stolen.”

The singer recounted how their friendship grew, despite Busola’s initial attempts to keep things platonic. “I started developing feelings for her, but she wanted to friend-zone me. I refused. I suffered to win her love. I would take her to work and back,” he explained.

However, Dakolo admitted his car often left Busola embarrassed. “She used to feel embarrassed whenever I picked her up in that branded Picanto I won from Nigerian Idols. I told her, ‘Don’t worry. I’ll shock you. Don’t look down on me.’ And I did.”

Timi Dakolo eventually won Busola’s heart, and the two tied the knot in 2012. The couple has since welcomed three children, building a strong family bond despite humble beginnings.

Dakolo’s story reflects his persistence and determination to succeed both in love and life, inspiring many with his resilience and devotion to his family.
