New Film ‘The Betrayed’ Earns ₦14.7 Million in First Week at Nigerian Box Office
“The Betrayed,” the latest film from Inkbot and directed by Zulomoke Oyibo, has made a strong debut at the Nigerian box office, earning ₦14.7 million in its first week of release. According to a report released on Friday, August 9, 2024, by the Cinema Exhibitors Association of Nigeria (CEAN), the film secured the second spot on the list of highest-grossing movies between August 2 and August 8.
“The Betrayed” follows the psychological journey of a young woman controlled by a mysterious figure who believes her husband has stolen millions from a crime syndicate. The film features a star-studded Nollywood cast, including Uche Montana, Gabriel Afolayan, Adunni Ade, Ibrahim Suleiman, Jemima Osunde, Vine Olugu, and Stephanie Zibili. It was the highest-grossing Nollywood film for the week.
Topping the box office was the Hollywood blockbuster “Deadpool and Wolverine,” starring Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds, which grossed ₦127 million in the same week, bringing its total to ₦354.5 million in just two weeks.
Other notable films on the list include Pastor Emmanuel Iren’s “What About Us,” which placed third with a weekly gross of ₦9.9 million, and the animated comedy “Despicable Me 4,” which earned ₦9.3 million, securing fourth place.
Rounding out the top five was “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence, with a weekly gross of ₦7.5 million, and a cumulative total of ₦455.5 million since its release.
