Nigerian Stars Dazzle at 2024 Glastonbury Music Festival
Nigerian music icons took the stage by storm at the 2024 Glastonbury Music Festival, showcasing Afrobeat and Afrobeats to an audience of over 200,000 attendees.
As one of the United Kingdom’s largest music events, Glastonbury attracts fans from across the globe. The 2024 edition, held from June 26 to 30, featured Nigerian artists Femi Kuti, Ayra Starr, and Burna Boy among its stellar lineup.
Ayra Starr, who recently released her sophomore album The Year I Turned 21, performed on June 28. She captivated the audience with her hit singles, delivering an electrifying performance of her 2022 hit “Sability.”
Grammy winner Tems made a triumphant return to the Glastonbury stage after her 2022 debut. She delighted fans with renditions of her popular songs, including tracks from her recently released debut album Born In The Wild.
Burna Boy performed on June 30, fresh off his second sold-out concert at London Stadium. The Grammy-winning artist wowed the crowd with a setlist of his biggest hits, with the audience particularly enjoying “Last Last.”
Afrobeat legend Femi Kuti and his son, Made Kuti, delivered a memorable performance before joining British band Coldplay on stage for a rendition of their collaboration “Arabesque.” Additionally, Burna Boy and British rapper Little Simz joined Coldplay for the premiere of their unreleased track “We Pray.”
This marked Burna Boy’s first collaboration with the seven-time Grammy-winning band. Coldplay’s lead singer, Chris Martin, had previously featured on Burna Boy’s “Monsters You Made” from his Grammy-winning fifth album Twice As Tall.
The performances of these Nigerian stars underscored the global influence and popularity of Afrobeat and Afrobeats, highlighting the rich cultural contributions of Nigerian artists to the international music scene.
