Nokia and Telecom Argentina Forge Partnership to Boost Network Innovation in Latin America

Nokia and Telecom Argentina have entered into a collaborative agreement aimed at advancing the GSMA’s Open Gateway ecosystem for network operations across Latin America.

The collaboration will leverage Nokia’s Network as Code platform with a developer portal, granting developers access to Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and software development tools. This initiative aims to enable developers to harness network functionality and data, integrating them into applications for consumer, enterprise, and industrial use cases across Telecom Argentina’s markets in Latin America.

Telecom Argentina will utilize the platform to conduct technical tests and develop use cases, facilitating faster service deployment in Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay. Built on technical standards from industry initiatives like the GSMA Open Gateway initiative and the Linux Foundation CAMARA project, the Network as Code platform with a developer portal represents a joint effort between Nokia and Telecom Argentina, both active contributors to these initiatives.

The revenue-sharing model of the platform involves developers, operators, and Nokia as the platform provider. Since its launch in September 2023, Nokia has inked collaboration agreements with 10 network operators and ecosystem partners to utilize the platform.

Shkumbin Hamiti, Head of Network Monetization Platform, Cloud and Network Services at Nokia, expressed excitement about expanding the Network as Code platform’s presence in Latin America. He emphasized Nokia’s commitment to bolstering Telecom Argentina’s network monetization efforts and engaging developers to innovate and create value for customers.

Roberto Nobile, CEO of Telecom Argentina and GSMA Board member, highlighted the company’s transition into a technology-driven enterprise, integrating digital ventures with connectivity as a core component. Nobile underscored Telecom Argentina’s dedication to fostering innovation and facilitating the development of applications and services that advance the digital economy. He also discussed the recent introduction of SIM Swap, Telecom Argentina’s inaugural API under the new business model, and expressed enthusiasm about expanding the partnership with Nokia to enhance network programmability monetization and elevate the customer experience in the region.
