Our Feud Caused Some Damages – AY, Basketmouth Discuss 18-Year Fight [VIDEO]
Renowned Nigerian comedians AY Makun and Basketmouth recently opened up about their nearly two-decade-long feud, shedding light on the toll it took on both their careers and personal lives. Speaking on the latest episode of the Glass House podcast, the comedians discussed the origins and consequences of their prolonged disagreement, which began in 2006 and only recently ended with a public reconciliation in September 2024.
Reflecting on the rift, AY explained that he never fully understood how it started, but it gradually escalated. “I didn’t know when the fight started. I just noticed it started. Every day I wake up thinking boys will be boys, and it grew into several years. People were spreading more rumors about it, which prolonged the feud,” AY shared. He acknowledged that their estrangement led to certain “damages” within their shared community, as both comedians were regarded as industry leaders.
Basketmouth echoed this sentiment, noting how the feud divided people close to them. “Most times, people swear allegiance by default. So, when we were not on good terms, some people made it their business to pick sides,” he said. With the rift now behind them, Basketmouth emphasized that the relationship is now “a collaboration over competition,” encouraging a more supportive dynamic in the comedy scene.
The reunion marks a significant moment for fans and peers alike, bringing a sense of unity to an industry often marked by rivalry.
