Over 600,000 Fans Take a Stand Following Mohbad’s Death
The Nigerian music industry is currently embroiled in a wave of controversy as fans express their outrage following the tragic death of Mohbad. This controversy has significantly impacted Naira Marley, whose social media presence is rapidly dwindling due to the backlash from fans.
Naira Marley, a prominent figure in Nigerian music, has seen a substantial decline in the number of followers on his Instagram account in the wake of Mohbad’s untimely demise. The drop in followers is viewed as a coordinated response from aggrieved fans who hold him partly responsible for the tragedy.
At the time of this report, Naira Marley had lost over 600,000 Instagram followers. On September 12, 2023, he boasted approximately 7.5 million followers on the platform. However, as more reports emerged implicating him in Mohbad’s death, his follower count began to plummet. By September 15, 2023, it had decreased to 7.4 million and currently stands at 6.8 million.
The late Mohbad, a promising young artist, met a tragic end under circumstances that have sent shockwaves throughout the music industry. Allegations of harassment and maltreatment, reportedly at the hands of Naira Marley and his associates, including Sammy Larry, have circulated widely. Although there is no concrete evidence linking Naira Marley to Mohbad’s death, viral video clips shared on social media have fueled public outrage and calls for a thorough investigation.
Law enforcement has officially initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s demise. Family members of the deceased and witnesses have met with the Lagos state commissioner of police to launch the investigation.
In a display of solidarity and mourning, devoted fans of Mohbad organized a peaceful procession on September 20th and 21st in honour of the late artist. The procession served as both a poignant tribute to Mohbad and a demand for justice in his name.
