People Can Fly Halts Development on Two Projects, Announces Layoffs
Game development studio People Can Fly has announced the suspension of two major titles – Project Gemini and Project Bifrost – and confirmed that staff reductions will follow as a result.
In a statement shared on social media, CEO Sebastian Wojciechowski described the move as a “very difficult decision,” citing unresolved publishing issues and financial constraints as key reasons behind the cancellations.
According to the company, Project Gemini was suspended after the unnamed publisher failed to present a new agreement to advance the project’s next development phase. Meanwhile, Project Bifrost was shelved following an internal review of cash flow, which revealed insufficient resources to sustain production.
“As a result, we have to significantly regroup as a studio and scale down our teams, which hurts the most,” Wojciechowski said. “We wish to express our deepest regret and sadness over how these events have unfolded and our sincere gratitude for everyone’s contribution.”
This marks the third major project cancellation for the Polish studio in just over a year. Back in April 2024, Project Dagger, which had reportedly been in development for several years, was also scrapped. The company also laid off around 120 staff members last year – a number that could increase with the latest announcement.
Despite the recent challenges, People Can Fly was recently confirmed as a co-developer on Gears of War: E-Day, offering a glimmer of optimism for the studio’s future. Additionally, the developer had previously disclosed a collaboration with Sony to build a prototype for an unannounced IP – a project that has yet to be officially updated.
The studio is best known for titles such as Outriders, Bulletstorm, and contributions to the Gears of War franchise.
