Puma Sets Sights on Ousting Nike as Relations with Barcelona Strain

In a longstanding partnership spanning 25 years, Barcelona and Nike have enjoyed a fruitful collaboration, symbolized by the iconic Blaugrana shirt. However, recent developments suggest that this enduring relationship may be on the verge of dissolution, with a formidable competitor eager to step in.

Despite having a contractual agreement until 2028, valued at approximately €105 million annually, with potential variations reaching €160 million, Barcelona and Nike find themselves entangled in legal disputes over sales and service. Additionally, there is growing frustration in Catalonia due to instances where the American brand faced stock shortages in the past three years.

Nike is pushing for a renegotiation of their deal with Barcelona at a reduced rate, raising concerns within the club that the sportswear giant might explore alternative partnerships. On the flip side, Barcelona believes they deserve a more lucrative arrangement, especially as German brand Puma emerges as a serious contender, ready to outbid Nike’s offer, according to MD reports.

While there are still four years left on Barcelona’s existing deal with Nike, the potential downsizing of the sponsorship agreement could escalate the situation. Barcelona, faced with financial considerations, is poised to prioritize the most lucrative offer, heightening the competition between Nike and Puma for a coveted partnership with the iconic football club.
