Report: Tuchel Appointed Bayern Boss After Swift Sacking of Nagelsmann

Bayern Munich appointed Thomas Tuchel as their new head coach after sensationally sacking Julian Nagelsmann on Thursday, according to insider Fabrizio Romano.

As reported on The Score, the club hierarchy held internal discussions over Nagelsmann’s future after Bayern slipped to second place and one point behind Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga table over the weekend.

Former Dortmund boss Tuchel has been out of work since Chelsea fired him in September 2022. He’s signed a contract through 2025 with Bayern, Sky Sport Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

The Bavarians are still competing for silverware in the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League, but Nagelsmann came under increased pressure in the wake of league defeats to Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen since mid-February.

Nagelsmann was widely criticized for labeling the officials who oversaw the Monchengladbach defeat as “spineless.” He also recently asserted that a “mole” in the squad was leaking tactics after some of his plans appeared in weekly magazine Sport Bild.

Tuchel remains a popular figure among Chelsea fans despite his dismissal. He won the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup during his 19-and-a-half-month spell in the Stamford Bridge dugout.

He previously led Dortmund to DFB-Pokal glory in 2017 and guided Paris Saint-Germain to the Ligue 1 title and successes in the Coupe de France and Coupe de la Ligue.
