Retro Remake Launches Pre-Orders for FPGA-Powered PS One Clone, SuperStation One
Retro gaming enthusiasts have a new reason to celebrate as Retro Remake opens pre-orders for the SuperStation One, an open-source FPGA clone of Sony’s PS One console. Designed to replicate the look and feel of Sony’s iconic gaming device, the SuperStation One boasts compatibility with original hardware while offering modern connectivity options and expanded functionality.
Modern Meets Retro Design
The SuperStation One’s design pays homage to the PS One with dual controller ports, memory card slots, and a USB Type-A port on the front. The console’s top panel features power and menu buttons, while the rear houses USB-C power, HDMI, VGA, and Ethernet ports, alongside composite, digital audio, and component connections.
Additional connectivity includes built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an analog audio jack, and an NFC reader, simplifying game loading via Zaparoo. The console supports active or passive cooling options, though detailed specifications are still forthcoming.
Powerful Internals for Enhanced Performance
At the heart of the SuperStation One is a Cyclone V FPGA paired with 128MB of BGA SDRAM and a 24-bit ADV7125 Video DAC. This hardware allows the console to natively play PlayStation games and offers support for the MiSTer FPGA platform, enabling players to load cores for systems like the Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn.
Missing Feature and Optional Add-On
While the SuperStation One does not include a built-in disc drive, Retro Remake is developing an optional accessory, the SuperDock. This add-on will feature a tray-loading optical drive, an m.2 2282 slot, and four additional USB Type-A ports, allowing users to enhance the console’s functionality.
Pricing and Availability
The SuperStation One is available for pre-order starting at $179.99 in three color options: classic grey, black, and transparent blue. An earlier Founder’s Edition priced at $149.99 has already sold out. Pre-orders for the SuperDock accessory require a $5 deposit, with the add-on expected to retail for approximately $40.
Retro Remake anticipates shipping the first wave of SuperStation One units by the fourth quarter of 2025, promising a modern yet nostalgic gaming experience for fans of classic consoles.
