Robert Williams Damages Rim After Hanging for Dunk

Robert Williams delayed the Boston Celtics game against the Denver Nuggets for over 35 minutes. What appeared in a video footage later, was that the rim was damaged after Williams dunked the ball and hung there for a few seconds. The game was delayed for almost 40 minutes after the Nuggets’ Ball Arena supervisors came to fix the rim.

In the 4th quarter, with over 6 minutes left in the game, Jaylen Brown threw the alley-oop from only a few feet ahead of half court. Williams caught the ball mid-air and dunked it hard. However, after Robert dunked it, he hung on the ring in excitement, before landing on his feet. Perhaps, the Celtics star didn’t realize what had happened to the rim. But the officials quickly realized what had happened and stopped the game.

The damage to the rim was a bit difficult to fix, as previously seen, rim problems aren’t easy to fix. This is not the first time that the rim has been damaged. Many a time we have seen players asking officials to fix the angle of the rim. Perhaps, all the NBA fans remember glass destroyer and rim-bender Shaquille O’Neal. His destructions to the rim are still scary and legendary.

During the 38-minute delay players from the Nuggets’ end were playing rock-paper-scissors with a young fan. While Marcus Smart just sat on the floor near the free throw line the whole time. Grant Williams also entertained the Celtics’ bench and courtside crowd with some of his moves. Jayson Tatum made some business decisions and went on to rest on the bench. The sideline reporter during the delay also interviewed former player and champion Timofey Mozgov.

Timofey discussing the broken rim said: “It’s like cooking a breakfast.” But the rim was still broken and there were many minutes left for it to be fixed, during those even Danilo Gallinari got interviewed for his ACL recovery.
