Russell Brand Charged with Rape and Sexual Assault in the UK
British actor and comedian Russell Brand has been formally charged with rape and multiple counts of sexual assault by UK authorities. The alleged offenses occurred between 1999 and 2005 and involve four different women.
According to a statement from the UK police, Brand faces charges including one count of rape, one count of oral rape, and two counts of sexual assault. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) confirmed that it authorized London’s Metropolitan Police to proceed with the charges following a review of evidence gathered during an investigation.
The case gained attention after a 2023 television documentary on Channel 4 highlighted allegations against Brand, prompting police inquiries.
“We have concluded that Russell Brand should be charged with the alleged offenses,” said Jaswant Narwal of the CPS. “These relate to reported non-recent offences between 1999 and 2005, involving four women.”
Brand, who resides in Oxfordshire, is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
