Samuel Eto’o Filmed Brutally Attacking a Man Outside World Cup Stadium

Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o, the current president of the country’s football federation, was filmed attacking a man outside Stadium 974 at the World Cup on Monday night.

As reported by 90 Min, the former Barcelona and Inter striker had been in attendance as Brazil faced South Korea in a last 16 tie and was seen posing for pictures with fans as he left the stadium.

But in footage captured by newspaper La Opinion, Eto’o appeared to take exception to one man who appeared on scene holding a camera.

The 41-year-old angrily confronted the man, having to be restrained by several others around him. As the situation continued, Eto’o eventually made a lunge towards him and appeared to strike him with a swinging knee to the head, knocking him violently to the ground.

The man didn’t seem to be badly hurt and was picking himself up as Eto’o was led away.

Although speculation has begun about what sparked the confrontation, the reason for the ultimately violent exchange has not been established. At the time, Eto’o had only told reporters that he was ‘out of his mind’ before security escorted him from the scene.

Eto’o, who has been in charge of football in Cameroon since 2021, enjoyed a glittering playing career that began when he was scouted by Real Madrid and joined Los Blancos aged 16.

Failing to make the breakthrough in Madrid, he later made his name with Mallorca, before joining Barcelona in a high profile transfer in 2004. Eto’o scored 130 times in 199 appearances for the Catalans, winning two Champions League titles, and was later involved in the part-exchange transfer that saw Zlatan Ibrahimovic move to Camp Nou from Inter.

Eto’o ended up having the better of that deal as he inspired Inter to Champions League glory as part of a treble just 12 months after being part of a Barcelona treble-winning season.

He was poached by short-lived Russian big spenders Anzhi Makhachkala in 2011, before spells at Chelsea, Everton, Sampdoria, Antalyaspor, Konyaspor and finally Qatar SC, retiring in 2019.

With Cameroon, Eto’o played at World Cups in 1998, 2002, 2010 and 2014, the latter two as captain.
