Skales and Wizkid

Singer Skales Sets Record Straight: “Wizkid Never Helped Me”

Nigerian singer Skales has clarified his relationship with Wizkid, his former record label mate, stating that the Grammy-winning artist played no role in his career advancement. Skales, known for hits like Shake Body, took to social media to set the record straight, emphasizing that only his former label boss Banky W, along with fellow artists Olamide and Timaya, provided him with tangible support in his journey.

On his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Skales wrote, “Put some respect on my name… I’ve told you, the only people who helped me were Olamide, Timaya, and Banky W… much respect to Burna. You all love to see artists go against each other, but I’m setting the record straight.” He added that his focus now is solely on making music, distancing himself from any “negative toxic” narratives.

Responding to a user who claimed, “Wizkid made you,” Skales countered, “Ask him to tell you how… got respect for him, but he didn’t help me. If anything, Banky deserves the praise for believing in teenagers.”

Skales and Wizkid were among the first artists signed to Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) in the early 2010s under the guidance of Banky W. Both artists eventually left the label after finding fame, but Skales’ recent comments highlight the selective nature of support he received from industry figures on his path to success.
