Skales Reveals He Wrote Hit Songs for Wizkid
Nigerian singer Raoul John Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has claimed that he contributed to writing several hit songs for his former label mate, Wizkid, during their time at Empire Mates Entertainment (EME).
In a recent appearance on the podcast Curiosity Made Me Ask, hosted by content creator Bae U Barbie, Skales disclosed that he co-wrote some of the tracks on Wizkid’s debut album Superstar, including the bonus song “Wiz Party.”
Reflecting on their time at EME, Skales said, “Back in EME, we were a team, so we used to write songs for each other. I wrote songs for Wizkid. He also wrote songs for me, too. He wrote ‘Mukulu’ for me, and I wrote ‘Wiz Party’ for him. EME was a collective, so we did teamwork.”
Wizkid and Skales were among the first artists signed to EME, a label founded by R&B singer and music executive Banky W in the early 2010s, which helped propel both artists to stardom. However, both artists eventually parted ways with the label after a series of disagreements with Banky W.
In a past interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Banky W revealed that based on his contract, Wizkid still owed EME three albums before his departure.
