Skepta Calls for UK vs. US Rap Battle to End Ongoing Debate

British rapper Skepta has issued a bold challenge to American hip-hop artists, proposing a transatlantic rap battle to settle the long-running debate over which country reigns supreme in rap music.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Thursday, the Grime pioneer said he’s ready to step into the ring with a U.S. rapper – and he’s not coming alone.

“I wanna clash an American rapper anyway, finally get this UK/US rap debate sorted,” he wrote.

To raise the stakes, Skepta suggested a full lineup of UK artists to go head-to-head with top-tier American rappers. His proposed matchups included Ghetts vs. Eminem, Chip vs. Kendrick Lamar, Dave vs. Lil Wayne, Youngs Teflon vs. Meek Mill, and Blade Brown vs. Pusha T. He also threw in Queenie vs. Megan Thee Stallion, Central Cee vs. Jack Harlow, Lancey Foux vs. Travis Scott, and JME vs. Tyler, The Creator.

Skepta argued that UK rappers, particularly those raised in the grime scene, are technically skilled and mentally prepared for high-level lyrical combat.

“The microphone training you get from being in the grime scene is top level, Oxford Uni level training. We’re not easy, lol,” he added.

The challenge has reignited discussions across social media about lyrical prowess, cultural influence, and the evolution of rap on both sides of the Atlantic.
