Small Doctor Raises Alarm Over Rising Drug Abuse Among Nigerian Youths
Nigerian singer Small Doctor has expressed concern over the growing rate of drug abuse among young people in the country, describing the situation as heartbreaking.
The Agege-born musician, known for his grassroots influence, recounted a recent visit to his childhood neighbourhood, where he witnessed the devastating effects of substance abuse firsthand. According to him, he saw several young men – once full of potential – now visibly altered by drug use, with some even dozing off while standing.
Sharing his experience via his verified X handle, the singer called for intensified advocacy and intervention against the growing menace.
“There’s one bros that sings against drug abuse on socials… I think we need him more at this moment,” he wrote. “I strolled through hoods on Sunday and what I saw was heartbreaking. The rate young chaps use drugs nowadays is alarming.”
He went on to reveal that Fuji music icon Wasiu Ayinde had once advised him, six years ago, to consider establishing a rehabilitation centre, predicting it would become an essential service in the future.
Reflecting on the advice, Small Doctor added, “Most heartbreaking was when I arrived in my hood. I saw some promising guys we grew up together sleeping while standing, some were even making some crazy postures while sleeping. So sad.”
His comments have since sparked conversations online, with many echoing the need for community-based solutions and increased mental health support for Nigerian youth.
