Speed Darlington and Burna Boy

Speed Darlington’s Lawyer Accuses Police of Bribery, Expresses Frustration Over Client’s Continued Detention

Stan Alieke, legal counsel to Nigerian singer Speed Darlington, has expressed frustration over his client’s prolonged detention despite being granted bail by the Federal High Court in Abuja on December 23, 2024.

Speed Darlington, whose legal troubles began with his arrest on November 27 over allegations of cyberstalking fellow artist Burna Boy, remains in police custody even after the court’s bail ruling. The situation has sparked outrage among his supporters and legal team.

Speaking in a video shared on his Instagram page, Alieke accused the police of disobeying the court’s order and suggested foul play, alleging that Burna Boy may have bribed officers to ensure Darlington’s continued detention.

“We have done everything a lawyer should do to get his client out. I have even exhausted all my connections and reached out to political friends in Abuja. The police have refused to obey the court order,” Alieke stated.

The lawyer recounted an earlier incident following Speed Darlington’s initial arrest in October, where he alleged Burna Boy distributed cash to officers. “After the meeting, I saw Burna sharing bundles of cash with the police, and they were asking for selfies. I told my staff then that if this guy makes a mistake again, these people will drill him,” Alieke said.

The allegations have raised concerns about police impartiality and compliance with judicial rulings. As Speed Darlington’s detention continues, his legal team vows to pursue further actions to secure his release.
