Oxlade: Ghana Shows Me More Love Than Nigeria
Nigerian Afrobeat star Oxlade has sparked conversations after stating that he feels more appreciated in Ghana than in his home country. In a recent interview, the singer revealed that he made this observation while working on his debut album, “Oxlade from Africa,” which features Ghanaian hip-hop icon Sarkodie.
Oxlade also used the platform to address a series of posts he had previously shared on X (formerly Twitter), where he expressed frustrations about certain figures in the Nigerian music industry. According to him, the posts were aimed at people he believes are “playing god,” attempting to control or dictate his career trajectory.
He voiced his frustration with some of the industry’s “OGs,” noting that these individuals feel slighted when they aren’t greeted properly in public, a situation that has seemingly contributed to the tension.
“If I’m being honest, Ghana has shown me more love than Nigeria,” Oxlade remarked, highlighting the contrasting reception he’s received in both countries. His comments have ignited debates among fans and music enthusiasts, with many weighing in on the cultural differences in how artists are celebrated across the two nations.
Oxlade’s remarks reflect the broader challenges that many Nigerian artists face in navigating the complexities of fame and recognition in the country’s vibrant but highly competitive music scene.
