After nearly a decade of virtual stardom and influencing pop culture, “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” the mobile game that played a significant role in Kim Kardashian’s rise to wealth and fame, is set to shut down. The game allowed players to navigate a virtual A-list lifestyle, mirroring Kardashian’s journey by climbing the social ladder.

Launched in June 2014, the game was a free download, but its revenue soared through in-app purchases, enabling players to buy virtual clothes and accessories for their avatars. The success was evident as it generated a staggering $700,000 a day shortly after its debut, contributing to Kardashian’s widespread influence in the gaming world.

In a heartfelt statement, Kardashian expressed gratitude to the game’s dedicated players, stating, “I’m so grateful from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has loved and played ‘Kim Kardashian: Hollywood’ in the past 10 years. This journey has meant so much to me, but I’ve realized that it’s time to focus that energy into other passions.”

Developed by Glu Mobile, the game’s success prompted the company to create similar mobile games based on other celebrities, such as Britney Spears and Gordon Ramsay. Riding high on this success, Glu Mobile was eventually acquired by Electronic Arts for $2 billion in 2021.

Kim Kardashian acknowledged the efforts of Glu and the behind-the-scenes team in her statement, expressing perpetual inspiration from the community built over the years. Her journey over the past decade has seen her transform into a business mogul, with ventures like Skims, an underwear and apparel brand that recently expanded into men’s clothing. Skims’ success has fueled speculation about a potential initial public offering for the company.

In addition to her entrepreneurial pursuits, Kardashian co-founded the private equity firm SKYY Partners in the previous year. The firm’s inaugural investment was in Truff, a trendy condiment company known for its truffle-infused sauces.
