Success Requires Dirty Work – Funke Akindele Opens Up
Award-winning Nollywood actress and producer Funke Akindele has shared insights into her work ethic and the mindset that has sustained her success, revealing that the road to achievement requires commitment, resilience, and a willingness to do the “dirty work.”
Speaking during an interview on the With Chude podcast, Akindele said many people admire her accomplishments without understanding the amount of sacrifice and effort that goes into building a thriving career.
“A lot of people want to do what I am doing, but I keep telling them: for you to be successful, you need to work hard and do the dirty work,” she said.
The filmmaker, whose films have topped box office charts in Nigeria for four consecutive years, emphasised that beyond talent, consistency and focus are what set achievers apart. According to her, she does not allow her current success to make her complacent.
“I stay focused. I don’t let my achievements distract me,” she said, adding that her dedication to perfection and attention to detail play a crucial role in her continued dominance in the industry.
Akindele also highlighted the importance of self-awareness, originality, and spirituality in navigating the entertainment space. While acknowledging that personal challenges are inevitable, she noted that she avoids breaking down under pressure and has developed the mental strength to keep going even during difficult times.
