Taylor Swift Partners with Disney+ for ‘The Eras Tour’ Film, Netflix Misses Out

Taylor Swift has struck a lucrative deal with Disney+ for the rights to her highly successful concert film, ‘The Eras Tour’, leaving other major distributors like Netflix and Universal in the dust.

After grossing over $261 million worldwide during its theatrical release, Swift’s concert film has become a hot commodity in the streaming world. Despite strong offers from competitors, Disney+ secured the rights for more than $75 million, with the film set to debut on the platform on March 15.

The streaming version, titled ‘Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’, will feature exclusive content including the hit song ‘Cardigan’ from her album ‘Folklore’ (2020) and four undisclosed acoustic tracks.

Disney Chairman Bob Iger expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating, “We know audiences are going to love the opportunity to relive the electrifying ‘Taylor Swift: Eras Tour (Taylor’s Version)’ whenever they want on Disney+.”

Originally released globally on October 13, 2023, the film chronicles Swift’s international tour and quickly became the highest-grossing concert film in history, earning a staggering $123.5 million in its first few days alone.

With this latest milestone, Swift’s tour cemented its place in history by becoming the first to gross over $1 billion, surpassing records previously held by Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’.
