Tems Cancels Kigali Concert Amid DR Congo-Rwanda Tensions
Nigerian singer Tems has cancelled her upcoming concert in Kigali, Rwanda, due to the ongoing conflict between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda.
The Grammy-winning artist was set to perform in Kigali on March 22, 2025, as part of her Born in the Wild tour but announced on Friday that the show would no longer hold. In a statement shared on Instagram, Tems apologized for initially promoting the event, explaining that she was unaware of the regional tensions.
“I recently promoted my show in Rwanda without realizing there is an ongoing conflict between Rwanda and Congo. I never intend to be insensitive to real-world issues, and I sincerely apologize if this came across that way,” she wrote.
The cancellation follows escalating tensions between the two neighbouring countries, with reports indicating that the M23 rebel group – allegedly backed by Rwanda – has taken control of Goma, the capital of North Kivu province in the DRC.
Tems’ decision to pull out of the Kigali concert reflects growing concerns over the security situation in the region.
