Tems Joins MLS Club San Diego FC as Co-Owner

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has become a co-owner of Major League Soccer (MLS) side San Diego FC.

The club announced that Tems joined its ownership group through her company, The Leading Vibe, making her the first African woman to hold an ownership stake in an MLS team.

Expressing excitement over the partnership, San Diego FC chairman Sir Mohamed Mansour highlighted Tems’ influence and the club’s connection to Africa. “Tems is a globally significant artist who will help us reach new audiences and spread the word about our unique project, which has its foundations in sub-Saharan Africa through the Right to Dream organisation,” he said.

Tems, in her response, emphasized the unifying power of football. “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and community,” she said. “Football brings people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation.”
