Tobi Amusan Cleared of Doping Allegations, Eager to Defend Title at World Athletics Championship

Lagos, Nigeria – Tobi Amusan, a prominent figure in Nigeria’s track and field scene, has been granted a clean slate by the Disciplinary Tribunal, thereby allowing her to defend her title at the upcoming World Athletics Championship. Amusan, who made history with a new world record of 12.12 seconds in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon, USA, is now focused on retaining her title in the face of adversity.

The Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) had provisionally suspended Amusan in May due to missing three out-of-competition tests within a 12-month span. However, the Disciplinary Tribunal’s recent ruling has cleared her of any wrongdoing, lifting her provisional suspension with immediate effect.

In an Instagram post, Amusan conveyed her relief and excitement about the Tribunal’s decision: “This morning, (evening in Nigeria) I found out that the Independent Tribunal that heard my case has ruled that I did not violate the whereabouts rules and as a result, I will not be sanctioned and none of my results will be precluded.”

Expressing her gratitude to her supporters, she affirmed her commitment to clean sport: “I am thrilled to put this behind me, and I look forward to defending my title at the World Championships. I generally have been and consistently will be an ally of clean sport. To my five fingers; God is the greatest and genuinely appreciate you all for the support.”
