Tony Yayo, Ice Cube and Notorious B.I.G

Tony Yayo Stands Firm: Declares The Notorious B.I.G. a Superior Storyteller to Ice Cube

In a recent Vlad TV interview clip released on Sunday, Tony Yayo, the G-Unit rapper, reiterated his bold claim that The Notorious B.I.G. holds the title of a better storyteller than Ice Cube, a sentiment he expressed during a previous appearance on Drink Champs last year.

During the interview, Yayo was questioned about his earlier statement on Drink Champs where he emphatically stated, “So you telling me Ice Cube is a better storyteller than Biggie? You fucking buggin!”

Despite any potential controversy, the 45-year-old rapper stood by his stance, emphasizing that he still considers Ice Cube an idol and a genius in his own right. Yayo clarified, “Listen, Ice Cube is an idol of mine — he’s a genius. He got movies, he has the Victory League — he’s a fuckin’ genius. I don’t have anything against him. […] You know what’s cool about the debate on Drink Champs? It made me go listen to more Ice Cube.”

Yayo acknowledged that the debate sparked discussions and reactions from fans, saying, “Don’t get me wrong — mad n-ggas screamed on me […] Ice Cube is one of the dopest, but for Biggie, maybe it’s more impact because I’m from New York. That’s what you gotta remember.”

Reflecting on the iconic feud between Biggie and 2Pac, Yayo delved into the cultural impact of Ice Cube and N.W.A, stating, “Don’t get me wrong, N.W.A – they started the Raiders hats, the black look. They had their look for LA, but n-gga was Versace, Coogi — had n-ggas wearing Coogi. N-gga was just that n-gga. Smoking that good weed. He was the first fat n-gga besides Heavy D to be super cool.”

In response to the viral discussion around Tony Yayo’s Biggie versus Cube debate, Ice Cube addressed the matter in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid. Ice Cube acknowledged the subjective nature of opinions and expressed his respect for Biggie. He also highlighted his extensive storytelling accomplishments over the last 30-plus years, both in rap and as a writer for movies.

“It’s subjective,” he stated. “Everybody got they favorites. I put my stories up against anybody and I have a bigger sample size. But at the end of the day, everybody is going to have their different opinion. I love Biggie, I’m a fan of Biggie.”

Cube went on to emphasize his versatility, saying, “I’ve wrote records for Eazy and N.W.A. And look, when we talking about storytelling, are we talking about rhyming? Because I write movies too, so I’m a hell of a storyteller. I can tell a damn story. So are we just talking about rap? That’s only a portion of what I do.”

In conclusion, Cube confidently stated, “Look, to be in that conversation, I’m winning already.” The debate between these two rap legends continues to ignite conversations among fans about the art of storytelling in hip-hop.
