Toyota to Replace Engines in 100,000 Tundra Trucks and Lexus SUVs
In a significant recall, Toyota has announced that it will replace the engines in nearly 100,000 Tundra pickups and around 3,500 Lexus luxury SUVs due to a defect that could cause engine power loss while driving.
The recall, which was initially announced in early June, affects the 2022 and 2023 model year Toyota Tundras and Lexus LX 600s. The problem involves non-hybrid, gasoline-powered versions of these vehicles. Toyota identified that debris from the manufacturing process may have been left inside the engines, potentially causing noises, rough running, and even engine stalling.
After extensive investigation, Toyota has determined that the only effective solution is to replace the entire engine in each of the 103,500 affected vehicles. Toyota dealers will carry out these replacements at no cost to the owners.
Although Toyota did not disclose the total cost of the engine replacements, the scope of the recall and the extensive work involved make it a substantial undertaking for the automaker.
While it is uncommon for manufacturers to replace engines on such a large scale, it is not unprecedented. In 2015, Hyundai recalled 470,000 Sonata models for a similar issue, and last year, Honda recalled 250,000 vehicles with the potential need for engine replacements.
This recall underscores Toyota’s commitment to addressing safety issues promptly and thoroughly, ensuring the reliability and safety of its vehicles for all customers.
