Tyrese Opens Up About Grief and Divorce in Tearful ‘Breakfast Club’ Interview
Tyrese Gibson, the renowned singer and actor, gave a deeply emotional interview on The Breakfast Club where he candidly discussed his struggles with grief and the pain of his recent divorce. In the interview, which aired on Tuesday, August 20, Tyrese shared the immense emotional toll of losing his mother, two sisters, filmmaker John Singleton, and his Fast & Furious co-star Paul Walker.
Fighting back tears, Tyrese revealed the daily challenges he faces, stating, “I’m doing the best I can with every 24 hours I get,” while affirming, “Black men cry.” He spoke poignantly about the irreplaceable void left by his mother’s passing, saying, “There is no square footage I could ever live in, no rims, no jewelry, no car, no net worth, no press release, no co-star, no collaboration in the world that could ever replace my momma.”
Tyrese, who has been through two marriages, reflected on the emotional devastation that men experience during a divorce, emphasizing that men also need support in such times. “When divorces happen, women aren’t the only ones that are devastated,” he said. “When a miscarriage happens, women are not the only ones that you should be checking on.”
In a surprising moment during the interview, Tyrese confessed that the jewelry he was wearing was not real, as he removed a bracelet from his wrist, admitting, “None of the jewelry that’s on my arm is real… This bracelet right here looks real as a motherfucker. This shit was $23 on Amazon.” He urged people to look beyond material possessions, stating, “Don’t love me because of no fucking diamond.”
Tyrese ended the interview with a candid piece of advice, saying, “If you out here getting fake vagina over your fake jewelry, reality is reality.”
