Ubi Franklin Opens Up About Suicide Attempts, Says Depression Followed Marriage Breakdown

Nigerian music executive and artist manager Ubi Franklin has shared an emotional account of his struggles with depression, revealing that he attempted to take his own life on several occasions following the collapse of his marriage to actress Lilian Esoro.

Franklin made the disclosure in a video posted on his Instagram page, saying he wanted to use his personal experience to encourage others facing difficult moments in life.

Reflecting on the end of his marriage, he said the separation left him deeply hurt and embarrassed, despite enjoying success in his career at the time.

According to Franklin, he struggled to understand why the relationship ended, especially as he believed he had done nothing wrong.

He recalled one incident in which he drove to the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos intending to end his life, but said his cousin, fashion designer Omini Stitches, intervened and prevented the tragedy.

Franklin revealed that he made multiple suicide attempts during that difficult period, crediting Omini with repeatedly stepping in to save him.

He explained that the emotional pain stemmed from feeling that everything else in his life was going well. His career was thriving, he was managing some of the country’s biggest music stars, and he believed it was the right time to settle down and build a family.

Despite the painful experience, Franklin said he has come to accept that not every relationship is meant to last.

Although he admitted he still cannot fully explain what caused the marriage to end, he said he and Esoro now maintain a healthy friendship and successfully co-parent their son.

He described their child as the greatest blessing to come from the relationship and expressed happiness that his former wife is doing well.

Franklin also said he remains willing to support her whenever possible and wishes her continued success.

Using his experience as a lesson for others, he urged people not to allow painful relationships to turn into lifelong hatred.

Instead, he encouraged individuals to see difficult experiences as opportunities for growth, learn from them, and move forward with their lives.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of suicide or self-harm, it’s important to reach out to a trusted friend, family member, or a qualified mental health professional. Seeking support can make a significant difference, and help is available.
